Create a Recursive Registry Rule
Please follow these instructions to properly create an Recursive Registy Key Rule. It's easy.
1. Open the Rules Wizard from the Action Panel, select "New Inventory Rule".
2. On the wizard startup dialog select, "Create New Recursive Registry Rule" and click next.
3. On the tool bar select "Add New Rule Items", this will open the Registry Key Selector.
4. Using the Registry Key Selector navigate to the key you wish to inventory and check the keys you wish to inventory and click Ok.
5. Once back at the wizard select next.
6. REQUIRED: Rule Name - You will now see the New Rule Details dialog, enter a Rule Name for your new rule, this will be a friendly name that you recognize the rule by.
7. REQUIRED: Class Name - You Enter an Class Name for your rule - this can be the same as your Rule Name if you chose.
(note: Do Not add an WMI precursor to the class name such as Win32_ or WinReg_ , the wizard handles all that later by itself)
8. Optional: Comment - Enter a comment for your rule, such as why, what, who,when.
9. Optional: Enable Rule - Check this to enable the rule for reporting immediately, leave unchecked to not report immediately. Click Next.
(note: you can leave this off and configure your rule later after you have submitted and applied the new rule by viewing the rule properties in the Inventory Manager rule list view of the console)
10. FINISHED: You will now see the New Rule Finish dialog. The results of your new rule submission will begin to appear automatically in the results view. Once it shows Complete you can click Finish and the wizard will close.
Great! you have just created a new custom inventory rule, you can now refresh the rules list in the console and view your new rule.
Remember - you may still need to modify the properties of the rule and or enable reporting for the rule to become active.
Special Note: When using an Recursive Registy Key Rule you can only choose ONE key path and select only subkey names of that single parent path.
